Wegovy Injection Sites Diagram

The three areas drawn from the label and the Instructions for Use, with the commonly quoted measurements that have no source

Wegovy injection site diagram A simplified front-facing body outline with three shaded injection zones: the backs of both upper arms, the lower abdomen excluding a circle around the navel, and the fronts of both thighs. The shaded areas are the three regions named in the Wegovy prescribing information. A dashed circle marks the two inch clearance around the belly button given in the Instructions for Use. Upper arm Self-injection allowed Upper arm on semaglutide Keep 2 inches clear of the belly button Stomach "lower stomach" in the IFU Upper leg "front of the thighs" Shaded areas are the three regions named in the Wegovy label. Boundaries are schematic.

If you came here for a picture, that is the picture. The rest of this page is about why it has soft edges in three places, because the honest version of this diagram is less precise than the ones currently ranking, and the imprecision is the useful part.

Where each zone comes from

Wegovy has more than one set of instructions. The prescribing information carries three separate Instructions for Use documents, one for the single-dose pen, one for the high-dose pen and one for the WEGOVY FlexTouch multi-dose pen, and they do not use identical wording for the body. Here is every statement each document makes about the anatomy, quoted.

Site wording in the Wegovy documents, quoted as written. All from the US prescribing information.
ZonePrescribing information, section 2.1Single-dose pen Instructions for UseFlexTouch Instructions for Use
Abdomen "abdomen" "lower stomach (keep 2 inches away from your belly button)" "stomach", "Keep a distance of 2 inches (5 cm) from your belly button"
Thigh "thigh" "upper leg (front of the thighs)" "upper legs"
Upper arm "upper arm" "upper arm" "upper arms"
Rotation "Rotate injection sites with each dose." "You may inject in the same body area each week, but make sure it is not in the same spot each time." "You may inject in the same body area each week, but make sure it is not in the same spot used for the last injection."

Three things fall out of that table that no diagram on the first page of results shows.

The abdomen zone is lower than most diagrams draw it. The single-dose pen Instructions for Use says "lower stomach", not "stomach". The FlexTouch document drops the qualifier. That is the only place the three documents actually disagree, and it is a difference of emphasis rather than of substance, but if you are following a diagram drawn against the wrong device you are following a zone that your own leaflet does not describe.

The thigh zone has a front and no edges. "Front of the thighs" is the entire specification. There is no stated distance from the knee, none from the hip, and no statement that the inner or outer thigh is excluded. Pages that give you four inches at each end are supplying a number the manufacturer did not.

Rotation does not mean touring the body. Both Instructions for Use documents give explicit permission to stay in one area week after week, provided the exact spot moves. The prescribing information's shorter "rotate injection sites with each dose" is the same requirement stated without that reassurance. This matters because a lot of people read the short version as an instruction to alternate stomach, thigh and arm, and then feel they are doing it wrong when they settle into one area.

The upper arm, and why it is on the diagram at all

On the two tirzepatide labels, the upper arm is not an area you use on yourself. Mounjaro's section 2.2 reads "inject MOUNJARO subcutaneously in the abdomen, thigh, or have another person inject MOUNJARO in the back of the upper arm". Wegovy carries no equivalent clause. All three areas are yours.

So on Wegovy you have three self-injection areas, and on Zepbound or Mounjaro you effectively have two. If you have switched medicines, your diagram changed when you switched. Our comparison of the best GLP-1 injection site for weight loss puts all four labels side by side on this one point, and the best injection site for Wegovy guide goes further into what the label does and does not let you vary.

What the documents say to avoid

The single-dose pen Instructions for Use is the most specific of the three:

"Do not inject into an area where the skin is tender, bruised, red, or hard. Avoid injecting into areas with scars or stretch marks."

It adds that you clean the site with an alcohol swab or soap and water, do not touch it after cleaning, and let the skin dry before injecting. The prescribing information adds that the injection is subcutaneous: the Medication Guide says in as many words not to inject into a muscle or a vein.

Stretch marks are the item worth pausing on, because it is the only one that is not obvious and it is the one most often dropped from third-party diagrams. On a lot of people the lower abdomen is exactly where stretch marks are, which can take a meaningful share of the shaded zone out of use and is a good practical reason to work the thigh into the cycle.

Four claims that are not in any Wegovy document

These appear on pages currently ranking for this query. None of them is dangerous. All of them are presented as though they came from the label.

The second one is the most interesting, because the explanation is plausible and the conclusion may even be reasonable practice. It is still an addition rather than a quotation, and a diagram that presents it in the same visual register as the 2 inch navel rule is telling you that two facts have the same standing when they do not.

How much is riding on the diagram

Less than the emphasis suggests. Section 6.1 reports that in adult weight-reduction trials, injection site reactions, including injection site pruritus, erythema, inflammation, induration and irritation, occurred in 1.4 percent of Wegovy-treated patients and 1 percent of patients receiving placebo. The placebo column is the part to sit with: a full 1 percent of people who received no semaglutide at all still reported a reaction at the site.

Section 12.3 closes the other half of the question. Maximum semaglutide concentration is reached 1 to 3 days post dose, bioavailability is 89 percent, and exposure is similar across all three areas. There is no absorption trade-off hiding in the diagram. Which zone you pick is a comfort and convenience decision, not a dosing one.

Where a diagram stops helping

A diagram tells you where you may inject. It cannot tell you where you injected last Thursday, which is the thing both Instructions for Use documents actually ask you to know: not the same spot as the last injection. On a weekly medicine, that is a question you answer four or five times before a month is out, from memory, usually while already holding the pen.

Jabby turns the diagram into a record. You tap the spot you used on a body map, and next week the app shows you which ones are still rested rather than asking you to recall. Side effects get logged against the dose and the spot that preceded them, which is what lets you tell a site problem apart from a dose problem later. The GLP-1 tracker app overview covers the rest of what that record is for.

The diagram is the easy half

Remembering which spot you used last week is the half an app is actually for.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Wegovy injection sites?

The abdomen, the thigh and the upper arm, per section 2.1 of the prescribing information. All three are self-injection areas on Wegovy.

How far from the belly button do you inject Wegovy?

2 inches, or 5 cm. It is the only anatomical measurement in either Instructions for Use document.

Where on the thigh?

The front. The Instructions for Use says "upper leg (front of the thighs)" and gives no boundary above or below. Any page quoting inches is adding them.

Can I use the same area every week?

Yes, as long as it is not the same spot as last time. The FlexTouch Instructions for Use states that directly.

Does the diagram differ by device?

Only in one word. The single-dose pen leaflet says lower stomach, the FlexTouch leaflet says stomach. The arm and leg zones and the 2 inch navel clearance are the same in both. If you are not sure which pen you have, our Wegovy pen instructions guide tells them apart in one look.

How often do injection site reactions happen on Wegovy?

1.4 percent against 1 percent on placebo in adult weight-reduction trials. For comparison, the Zepbound label reports 6 to 8 percent by dose against 2 percent on placebo.
